Lazy Eye (Amblyopia)

Lazy eye is a condition that can result when vision does not develop properly when a child is very young or an eye's muscles don't develop properly and allows the eye to turn. This means that lazy eye can be treated a lot more effectively if detected earlier in life. If the lazy eye is a result of a very high difference in prescription between the two eyes, the wear of the full spectacle prescription with a patch over the better eye during active visual activities is recommended in some cases. Eye exercises and other activities are prescribed while wearing the patch. If the muscles in the patient's eyes are the cause of the eye turning in, out, up or down it is called strabismus. Strabismus is treated with either prism in the spectacle lenses or muscle surgery along with the full spectacle prescription. Lazy eye can be detected during a yearly routine vision examination and if detected a proper treatment plan will be designed for you.
